Paul Myers named Grounds Superintendent at Pittsburgh Field Club
PCC employee Paul Myers has recently been named Grounds Superintendent at Pittsburgh Field Club. He will start in January. Paul graduated in 1998 with a BS in Turfgrass Science from Penn State. He has previous experience working at many great clubs including: Riviera CC, Congressional CC, Overbrook CC, Eagle Oaks CC, and The Denver Country Club.
This was a highly sought after position at a wonderful, historic club. The competition was stiff with over 200 resumes submitted by highly qualified candidates from the very best courses in our region. We congratulate Paul, wish him all the best, and thank him for his hard work serving the Cricket Club.

Winter Work Begins
The grounds committee has decided to focus maintenance efforts towards off-season projects and permanent repairs for the 2010 season. During the winter months, we will cease our routine bunker maintenance which is labor intensive to allow us to accomplish this work. This is a common practice at many clubs during the winter months as staff is limited. During this period the golf committee is allowing members to play lift, rake, and place in bunkers. We will inform members when raking resumes in March.

Militia Hill Bunker Work
The photos above shows how the greenside bunker on #18 Militia Hill would look during and following heavy rain. It was historically one of our highest labor input bunkers on either course.
The below videos show this same bunker following its recent repair. It exhibits how our new construction method keeps sand on steep slopes, even during the 2" rain we received in early December. Our labor inputs will now be minimal on this bunker and playabilty for members will be outstanding!
